How To Use Pinterest as an Etsy Seller

21 Mar

Pinterest has been touted as one of the best ways to drive traffic to your Etsy page. I think this is totally true, if you’re doing it right. Here’s my advice:

1. Sign up for Pinterest. This should be obvious. If you don’t quite know how to do this, Google can help you.

2. Look up tags and follow boards related to both the things you make AND the target audience. For instance, if you’re knitting Doctor Who scarves, find some knitting stuff AND Doctor Who things. People who can knit don’t need to buy your Doctor Who scarves, but people who like Doctor Who might be looking for exactly what you have to offer.

3. Repin the things that you genuinely like or are interested in. Branch out into all the things you’re interested in, because a. Pinterest is fun and b. the publicity can’t hurt. If you repin something of someone else’s, they will be flattered and probably check out your stuff. Try for at least 3 things a day.

4. Repin your own Etsy listings. It’s awesome because Pinterest is integrated with Etsy, and will show a picture from your listing and its price. Do this only once or twice a day, depending on how often you list stuff. Believe it or not, it helps you out more to space them out rather than dump them all at once.

5. Use Pinterest like everyone else does. I have a board especially for things I want to crochet. It’s not even just patterns; I’ll repin a picture of an animal that I’d like to make or a design I want to cross-stitch into a project. It really helps me get inspired and brainstorm.

To recap, here’s the key ways you should be using Pinterest:

  • To boost your Etsy shop through direct links
  • To truly connect with people that might be interested in what you have to offer
  • To actually help yourself get better at your craft.

Good luck!

Angelic Granny Squares

Angelic Granny Squares

This photo came out looking weirdly holy… Anyways, these are my first granny squares.

I’m still deciding what to do with the finished product: I think a green and purple baby blanket would be fun (Barney Squares!!!), but is there really a market for baby blankets in non-pastel colors? Maybe somebody involved with babies or moms could help me out?

Here is the granny square pattern I used.

I also published a new listing, for a truly unisex brown & black crocheted backpack. Click the link to visit the listing & my Etsy store!

Pink Barefoot Sandals

I went to the thrift shop and stumbled upon a bag full of thread, string, and yarn for only a dollar-fifty. I was intrigued by all the summer colors, especially since summer seems to be RIGHT AROUND THE CORNER EVEN THOUGH THERE’S STILL SNOW ON THE GROUND (grr) I decided to celebrate and make these barefoot sandals.

I don’t explicitly condone illegal activity, but you could DEFINITELY get away with no shoes if you have these… just saying, wearing shoes during the summer is laaaame…

NSFW warning, buuuuuttt….

I thought that my followers, particular the queer ones, might be interested in this. Strap-on harnesses can be SUPER expensive, and Ray is making strap-on harnesses with CROCHET. How cool is that? If I didn’t want this guy to make mad bank, I would definitely steal his idea. Go on, buy one! I’m going to!
